McKesson Canada opens new Moncton distribution centre
McKesson Canada is investing $25-million to strengthen its distribution business in Moncton, which will become the company's regional base for serving its customers in the Maritimes. Located in Caledonia Industrial Estates, this new facility is strategically located to provide a high quality of service throughout the region.
“As a leading provider of logistics, information products and services within the Canadian health-care marketplace,” said Premier David Alward, “we are thrilled that the company has chosen to expand its operations and establish its Atlantic Canada regional office in Moncton”.
Alward said that with its central location in the Maritimes, Moncton is an ideal location for businesses looking for easy, cost-effective access to any market.
Founded more than 100 years ago, McKesson Canada delivers medicines, supplies and information technologies to the healthcare industry to provide patients with better, safer care. The company says its distribution centres supply 40 per cent of the medicines used in Canada to 6,300 retail pharmacies and 1,350 hospitals, clinics and institutions.
McKesson had already been operating a distribution operation in the Moncton Industrial Park, but this new facility consolidates that operation with one in Halifax into this new 150,000 sq. ft new centre.
“The new distribution centre will enable us to generate more efficiencies?for our customers,” said McKesson Canada president Nick Loporcaro.?“This is an important decision for McKesson Canada as it also provides?more flexibility and potential to offer new distribution services to our Maritimes customers while taking into account current and future needs.”
The new facility will employ 90 people including the 50 employees from the Moncton park facility.
